Former champion Phil Edwards admits he and partner Barry Hurt have midlands honour to uphold in this week's final of the SkyCaddie PGA Fourball Championship, supported by Sunderland.
Edwards and Hurt were victors in 2006 at Hesketh Golf Club in Southport but the event was moved to Fulford in York last year.
The pair missed the cut in their title defence but return again attempting to regain the trophy, which has been won by a midlands pair for the last two years.
However, 2007 winners Mathew Morris (Bromsgrove) and Adrian Carey (Walmley) will not be present in this year's field as a change in playing category means they are now ineligible.
Therefore Edwards, of Notts Golf Club, feels an added responsibility to do the region proud.
"Midlands lads have won the last two years so hopefully we can uphold midlands' honour," he said. "We have got a good draw with some other past champions (West region's Martyn Thompson and Michael Watson, 2005 winners) and so it is going to be good.
"As long as we can stay with them I am sure we'll be close."
The £30,000 54-hole final begins today and Edwards, having had plenty of experience in the event, is confident he and Hurt, of Bulwell, can do well.
"Barry and I get on so well there is no pressure on each other. We have played together since junior golf, played county golf together and Barry is one of my best friends.
"We have played a lot of golf together. Barry is the first person I would ring if I wanted a game of social golf.
"We are both quite relaxed with each other and if it doesn't happen it doesn't happen. We take what comes in this format.
"There are a lot of good professionals in there but it gives us confidence knowing we have won it before.
"We missed the cut last year. In fact our last three years have been missed cut, won, missed cut, so hopefully we can continue that pattern."
Edwards and Hurt showed they are still a force to be reckoned with by comfortably coming through qualifying, which was won by northern Lincolnshire duo Danny Greenwood and Steve Bennett.
They also played in the final last year, recording a top-15 finish, and they aim to build on that this time around.
"We are looking forward to it. We got the tee times through and we are playing with two other midland region lads (Ramsdale Park's Paul Bagshaw and Mapperley's Craig Swinburn) so it should be very friendly," said Greenwood, from Forest Pines near Scunthorpe.
"I've not been playing too well the last couple of months but Steve has been playing well. He is the senior pro so he's got to lead the way.
"We'll just turn up on the first day and give it a whack! But we are going there to win it, we're not going just to enjoy it.
"There are a lot of strong contenders playing but we fancy our chances. You end up worrying to much if you go through the draw so we just have to turn up and play. It is just scoring on the day.
"We need a hot start. You have got to be at least six under after the first round otherwise you are behind.
"You have got to start from the first tee, shoot and go for it. There is no point in playing for pars."
