Spaldington's Paul Bradshaw moved to within one round of playing alongside the cream of the European Tour after victory in the Crown Golf English PGA Assistants' Championship qualifier at Nottinghamshire's Cotgrave Golf Club today (Thursday).
The 29-year-old carded a three-under-par 68 to head the field, which saw six qualifiers book their place in next month's final.
Bradshaw dropped his only shot at the first and then weighed in with four birdies at the 3rd, 4th, 11th and 16th, to finish two shots clear of John Banbury (Moor Hall) and Leigh Jones (Stourbridge).
The remaining three places required a six-way play-off between Fraser Kelley (Malton & Norton), Chris Chamberlain (The Belfry), Richard Pace (Hornsea), Martin Edge (Hesketh), Mark Ridley (South Moor) and Michael Kanski (Hesketh) after they all finished on level par 71.
Cotgrave's par five first proved to be the only hole needed to decide the remaining three qualifiers as Chamberlain, Pace and Ridley birdied the hole to put them through with the other trio only managing par.
The final will be held at Batchworth Park on September 29 with the winner chasing a share of the £16,000 prize fund and a place in the English Open at St Mellion International Resort.
