Former Welsh Young PGA Professional champion Adam Constable is looking to take his game to another level at the Ryder Cup Wales 2010 Welsh National PGA Championship in Cardiff on September 3.
Constable - Welsh Young Pros champion in 2006 and 2007 - has had mixed fortunes this season, but the local lad believes he has the game to challenge for the title at his home course.
"I like the Welsh events," Constable admits, something supported by his recent 15th place finish at the RCW2010 Welsh Open PGA Championship.
"I did well at the Welsh Open, but I had a poor last round and dropped back a bit."
Constable was third at the Welsh National last year and many are tipping him to go even better this year.
"I'd like to win and qualify for Celtic Manor next season, obviously there will be a high quality field there before the Ryder Cup," Constable added.
"This season's not been too bad, but I've been concentrating on my studies and I've not played that many tournaments.
"I've got a good run of tournaments coming up and I want to have a good finish.
"My game is pretty decent at the moment. I need to hole a few putts and get the putter going soon."
Putting is something that Constable believes will be key to success in the event, which is being held in Cardiff for the second consecutive year.
"I'm a bit of a streaky putter, but if I can hole a few early on then that will give me confidence," he continued.
"The course isn't the longest, you've got to keep it in play. If you can make the greens then it comes down to who can hole the birdie putts."
And Constable is not the only player hoping to make an impact at his home course.
Rhys Davies will also be aiming to give the Welsh something to cheer in an event whose past winners include Ian Woosnam.
"I'm going to do my best there," said Davies. "It would be good for me to perform there in front of the members.
"My first aim is to make the cut, then obviously after that try and stay in contention.
"The key at Cardiff is to play it as you see it. There are some big trees and you can get into trouble if you keep going for drivers.
Both Constable and Davies will be targeting a share of the £42,500 prize money on offer, with the winner pocketing £6,000.
Rob Holt, Chief Executive of Ryder Cup Wales 2010, added: "We are delighted to be title sponsors of this historic event which dates back to 1904 and boasts an illustrious list of winners including former Ryder Cup captains Ian Woosnam and Brian Huggett.
"It is great to be back at Cyncoed (Cardiff) Golf Club for a second year, which will again provide a great test of golf for all the players including defending Champion, Stephen Dodd. This is the final event in the 2008 Summer of Golf programme and crowns another great year of Welsh golf."
