The first round of the €70,000 Ladbrokes.com Irish PGA Championship was completed this morning with surprise leader Eoin O'Connor from Kilkenny topping the leaderboard after a level par 71.
He was one stroke ahead of Michael Collins (Mallow Driving Range) with Philip Walton, who qualified for the British Open on Tuesday,sharing a 73 with Robert Giles (Greenore). On 74 are David Mortimer (Team Ireland) and Eamon Brady (Clontarf), a stroke ahead of Eamon Darcy and defending champion Padráig Harrington.
Darcy and Harrington managed to complete their first round yesterday and they are now joined on four-over 75 by Wayne O'Callaghan, Keith O'Neill, Brendan McDermott and Ted Higgins.
